Winter Warm
Winter survival packs from the Handsworth Association of Schools
Winter survival packs, tailored emergency food packages and bedtime care packages will be distributed to vulnerable families to help them keep warm as the temperatures drop every winter. HAOS wants to help ensure that vulnerable families do not go hungry or without essential items.
Our campaign comes as the Department of Energy and Climate Change estimates thousands of homes in Birmingham will be in fuel poverty this year as the impact of Covid takes hold. Fuel poverty, when a household has to spend more than 10% of its income on fuel bills to heat the home to an adequate level is also increasing. We are able with the support of Birmingham Children’s Trust and Children in Need to help families in crisis to keep children warm and safe so that they are ready for school to learn and thrive.
We are also a referral organisation for The BBC Children in Need Emergency Essentials Programme which supports children and young people up to the age of 18 living with severe poverty as well as additional pressures such as domestic violence, disability or poor health in the family. We are able to apply for grants on behalf of families or young people.
