Details of our Love Latin Programme

Thanks to the University of Birmingham and Classics for All, a National Charity for Classics in Schools, our member schools have been invited to participate in a Love Latin taster afternoons for a number of years, and some of our schools have then taken advantage of fully funded professional development days focussing on ‘How to integrate and manage Latin Learning in Schools’.

At the taster afternoons children participate in a range of activities that introduce them to the Latin language as well as a little Greek and Roman culture such as a session in the University’s museum handling ancient objects to learn about mythology and history. There is even a Latin Graduation Ceremony at the end of the afternoon.

The Love Latin programme aims to increase confidence in children’s reading and speaking skills; increase vocabulary; and support higher order thinking such as computation, concepts and problem solving.  Teachers also have the opportunity to participate in independent training on the day about introducing Latin into your school.

The programme has been a real success so we are hoping to offer this opportunity again. Please get in touch here if you would like to know about the next opportunities to participate.
