Coronavirus Community Support Fund

Youth Parliament in Action

We engage young people annually in local action through our Young People's Parliament Programme, but we are extending this programme in 2019/20 with the kind support of the Coronavirus Community Support Fund to engage young people in responding to the impact of COVID-19 on the residents of Handsworth. The young people will be given training designed to build their knowledge and awareness of the impact of COVID-19 on households and families in their own neighbourhood, and supported to develop and deliver community projects in eight neighbourhoods near their own schools, all of which will provide relevant support to local people in need.

The local community projects are expected to reduce isolation, increase mental resilience, coping strategies, provide food and other essential resources, increase awareness of crime, scams and doorstep fraud, reduce violence and help young people into employment, training or further education.
