Front Door Food Feasts

Incredible Support from Our Schools

“We are amazed at the amount and quality of food in the parcel delivered to our front door from school”.

“We were wondering how we would stretch the money to feed everyone every day this week”.

“It was just wonderful to get this great selection of foods and other essentials brought to our door”.

These are the sorts of reactions of about 60 families every Thursday since April who receive a food parcel from the Care Together Bank provided through Handsworth Association of Schools

Debz Bonnique, project co-ordinator describes how it works.

“Schools usually know the families who are already finding things tough at any one time, and they check with the family if they’d welcome a parcel. Within a couple of days, we will have parcels ready for the school to take to the families who need them”.

Behind the scenes, Debz and her team have received deliveries of supplies from SeewaDay, driven over to pick up food from the Fair Share depot, and been shopping for fresh fruit and veg.

“We want to give people something special”, says Debz. “So we provide the food, yes, but we add in some great recipes and some other essentials that a family might skimp on when things are tight”
